GG-Grandparents – Paternal Side

Updated: 30 March 2016

My father’s side is where the majority of the scandals are.  I suspect this is not because they were any more scandalous, but because they were more affluent and things got written down!

General note: children with a ‘+’ are known to have descendents, those with a ‘-‘ are known not to.  If there is neither, then I don’t know.

Please post a comment if you have further information or if there are any errors.  Child(ren) in caps are my ancestors.  Further posts with more information on each will follow in due course.

    1. Hi Ruth,
Will email you the marriage parish register entry I found on the IGI for you to look at – what handwriting! I do know when I got the certificates in the UK they were in the index under Shaw! I’ve also found a baptism in North Runcton for a Frances in 1823 which has much neater handwriting – and looks like Man, but could be Maw?!

And as a general note, there seem to be a pretty complete set of Norfolk parish registers on the IGI. They’re not indexed, so you have to know when abouts and where you’re looking, but they’re free!

  1. Mark Carpenter Turner

    I think we are related.
My name is Mark Turner – my great great Grandfather was Walter Augustus Hewitt. My Dad has a Drawing of him in his study (aged 19 studying to be an architect – which I don’t think he continued) – Elsie Maud married Rev John Carpenter Turner – they had four children my Grandad Claud William Carpenter Turner – who married Jean Balfour Hutchings. They had Ann Carpenter Turner and my dad Peter Carpenter Turner. My dad (also a Rev.!!) married Kathleen Stephanie Fiona Lucas and they had Ruth, Darcy (Male) and Me Mark. I have a digital phone of the drawing of Walter Augustus Hewitt and a photo of his daughter Elsie Maud I could send if you would like
    Yours sincerely

    Mark Turner

    1. Hi Mark,
I think we were in contact a while ago but lost touch.

Not long ago I was sent some newspaper reports on Elsie and John’s wedding from the The Standard and the Isle of Wight Observer. They make fascinating reading! If you don’t have them, I can email them to you.

I would love to have the pictures of Walter Augustus and Elsie. Not sure if my email is on the blog somewhere? If not, I’ll email you.

  2. Olivia Hewitt

I am related to you (and Mark I think) through Walter Augustus Hewitt. His brother Charles Augustus is my great grandfather. I have a copy of Charles Augustus’ photo album which inlcudes pitcures of several of our relatives. It is currently being restored but should be back with me at the end of August – I would be happy to scan and email any relevant photos to you both. I am also happy to fill you in on the rets of that side of the fmaily tree if you are interested. I never relaised how exciting it is to find poeple you are slightly related to online – I’m hooked!
    All the best Olivia Hewitt
